My Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Experience

It’s once again time for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.  The specially ticketed event takes place select nights until October 31st.  Those who purchase a party ticket are able to enter the Magic Kingdom beginning at 4pm on the party night, and the party goes from 7pm – Midnight.

Entertainment ranges from the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular show on the Castle Stage, to Mickey’s “Boo to You” Halloween Parade, Happy Hallowishes Fireworks, a Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball, and more.  Party-goers can trick or treat, snack on specialty food, and purchase special event merchandise.

New this year is special Halloween Fun at the Mad Tea Party, Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean.  Nightfall at the Mad Tea Party means changing lights and special effects, while a ride on Space Mountain becomes more intense with all the lights shut off and live pirates are a part of the Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time.

Families can have fun at the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam with Disney Junior Characters or dance along with Mike and Sulley at the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball.  Don’t forget to grab your spot for the parade early enough to see the Headless Horseman ride.

Once inside the park, party guests were directed through a backstage area by Tony’s Town Square Restaurant for some PhotoPass Opportunities, were handed our trick or treat bags and given our first pack of candy.

From there, we visited the Allergy-Friendly Center at Liberty Square to pick up a teal bag.  Disney has made it very easy for guests with allergy needs to enjoy the event just as much as those of us who can have the regular candy offerings.  Guests with teal bags are given an token to take back to the Allergy-Friendly centers and redeem for items they can have.

Mickey’s “Boo to You” Parade is held twice nightly, and we watched the first parade from Frontierland.  If this is your first time attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, I suggest watching the parade from Main Street to get the full effect of all the decorations.  Since we have been before, we tend to like watching it from Frontierland for a less crowded experience.

While most of the parade remains unchanged, they have brought the Wreck-It Ralph characters into the parade, which was a nice change.  After treating ourselves to a Cauldron Popcorn bucket and enjoying our treat on the steps of Liberty Tree Tavern we headed to get a spot to watch Happy Hallowishes.  The fireworks show remains unchanged, but the soundtrack encourages everyone to sing along.

While the fireworks are best viewed from the hub area of the castle, you’ll want to be much closer to the castle stage for the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular for the best experience.  I would have to say this stage show is probably the highlight of the party.  The casting of the Sanderson Sisters is spot on, their costumes and everything about them is perfection.  Disney has done a good job integrating the existing Disney Villains with the 3 witches for a seamless show.  Be sure to catch one of the three showtimes!

We spent some time visiting PhotoPass locations that didn’t have long lines, trick or treating and just soaking up the atmosphere.  We wanted a photo with Jack and Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas, but the line remained long all through the evening.  Other characters included Lotso, Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, and Gaston.  Jack and Sally were back by Liberty Square in the Gazebo…but we hear that the characters may change at various parties.

My husband and I had a lot of fun at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year, we ended up with 4 bags of candy, a Cauldron Popcorn Bucket, a Headless Horseman straw clip, and lots of great memories.  Not sure if the party is right for you?  Let’s talk and I can share more of our experience with you.

Blogger, Traveler, Wife, Runner….I’m known as many different things.  But I’m here to be your Travel Professional.  Ever since I was a little girl I had an interest in travel. I would collect the postcards books that my grandparents brought back to me from their travels and I kept them in a special box that I loved to pull out and flip through. As I traveled with my family I started collecting postcards on my own and pictures, maps, and other mementos of my travels.

Believe it or not, I still have those postcards and every once in awhile I’ll bring them out and flip through smiling at the memories they bring back. Although I might not collect postcards anymore I collect photos, stories and information on my travels. I love to soak up a destination, reveling in the local food life. I absolutely love sharing my travel stories, foodie moments and special encounters.
