What YOU Need to Know about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening

Yesterday was a day that many Star Wars fans were waiting for, opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge were announced for Disneyland California Parks and The Walt Disney Resort, Florida. Citing high anticipation from fans, Disney made the decision to open the parks in phases allowing an earlier opening date.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland Park on May 31, 2019 and at Walt Disney World on August 29th. Along with this announcement followed a lot of details about Fastpasses, access the land etc. So let’s set the record straight about how this is going to work.

Phase One will include:
– Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction
– Food & Beverage offerings
– Exploring Merchant Shops

Phase Two (set to open later in the year) will include:
– Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Attraction, this attraction will allow guests to be a part of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance

If you’re planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland between May 31 & June 29 then there are some important facts to be aware of. Obviously Park Admission is required to visit the area, but you will also be REQUIRED to make a reservation (no-cost & subject to availability) to access the land. We do not yet have details on how this works. However, if you stay at a Disney Hotel (The Grand Californian, The Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel) during the the dates mentioned you will be given a designated reservation to access the land. The reservations are ONE per registered guest. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will NOT be open during the Extra Magic Hour or Disneyland Magic Morning.

If you’ll be visiting The Walt Disney World Resort on August 29th or after NO reservations are required to access Star Wars: Galaxy Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park. However the area will be capacity controlled. Guests will be able to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during Extra Magic Hours.

No problem you think…I’ll just get a Fastpass for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction. Hold on to your lightsabers…that will not be happening right away. Disney’s Fastpass Service, Fastpass+ Service and Disney MaxPass Service will not offer passes for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run to begin with. Disney will be evaluating this throughout the process.
